Where it all started?
SREE RAMA DASA ASHRAM, CHENKOTTUKONAM
In 1920, Brahmashree Neelakanta Gurupadar, Paramaguru of our tradition, moved to a 14-cent piece of land in Chenkottukonam, Trivandrum, Kerala. This land, known as Tapobhoomi or the Place of Penance and Enlightenment, symbolizes the 14 regions of spiritual existence described in Hindu Puranas as 14 Lokas (7 subtle and 7 gross worlds). It is blessed with the presence of the Mahasamdhis of two saints who had lived and attained immortality more than one thousand years ago. It has been further sanctified by the 45-year-long intense, incessant and penetrating penance of Brahmasree Neelakanta Gurupadar. The temple complex at the Ashram comprises of Seetha-Rama-Anjaneya Shrine, consecrated by Brahmashree Neelakanta Gurupadar, Gurupadar Samadhi Shrine and Shakthi Ganapathi Shrine, consecrated by Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi Thiruvatikal.
Ashram has uninterrupted recitals of Adhyatma Ramayana for more than 8 decades. There is no place where the whole text is recited during the daytime daily. On special occasions, the recital continues late into the night and ends with abhishekam at 3 AM. This holy ritual started by Gurupadar is still carried out as Yajna. Aradhana is performed daily in the morning and at night at Samadhis and at Sakthi-Ganapathi and Rama-Sita-Anjaneya Shrines. The Union of the worshipper and worshipped is the unique aspect of worship. SANKALPA is given more importance than ritualism.
