Annadanam – The Sacred Offering of Food

"Annadanam Mahadanam" – The offering of food is considered the greatest of all charities in Sanatana Dharma.

At Sree Dharmashasthagiri Ayyappa Temple, the sacred Annadanam Seva is one of the temple's most cherished traditions. During the Mandala–Makara Vilakku season, Annadanam is conducted continuously for 60 days, serving three wholesome meals a day with love, devotion, and selfless service.

Each day, nearly 1,000 devotees are served nutritious meals, ensuring that every pilgrim and visitor receives food as a sacred offering (Prasadam) of Lord Ayyappa.

The temple follows the timeless principle that food is a divine gift. Annadanam is offered free of cost to all devotees, without any distinction of caste, creed, religion, or social background, reflecting the universal values of compassion, equality, and service.

This sacred seva is especially meaningful for Ayyappa devotees observing the 41-day Vratham, who travel from different places and stay away from their families while preparing for their pilgrimage. The Annadanam provides them with nourishing meals that support their spiritual discipline, devotion, and well-being throughout their sacred journey.

With the wholehearted support of devotees, well-wishers, and the local community, this noble service has been conducted successfully year after year. In addition to the Mandala season, special Annadanam is also organized during major temple festivals, special poojas, and other auspicious occasions, enabling more devotees to partake in this sacred blessing.

The temple warmly invites devotees to participate in Annadanam Seva by sponsoring or contributing towards this noble cause. Offering food to the needy and to fellow devotees is regarded as one of the highest forms of Dharma, bringing immense spiritual merit and divine blessings.
